"We Must view young people not as empty bottles to be filled, but as candles to be lit."
Robert H. Shaffer
Cathy K. Goolsby is beginning her 26th year in the DeKalb County School District
2nd year as Principal at Redan Elementary. Ms. Goolsby believes in
setting high expectations on a daily basis. Her beliefs also reflect that we can
no longer accept mediocrity in learning and teaching. It is always our goal, as
educators to ensure that every student meets or exceed expectations
academically, as well as behaviorally.
Therefore, Ms. Goolsby has
designated the school’s motto for the 2019-2020 school year as, “Flying to New
Heights,” as we meet and exceed the College and Career Readiness Performance
Index (CCRPI) targets for improvement in content mastery, closing gaps, and
Two mottos that best describe
Ms. Goolsby’s character and expectations are “Do the right thing when no one is
looking” and “Early is on time, on
time is late, and late is unacceptable.” She takes pride in ensuring
fairness and equity in decision making, while simultaneously focusing on the
needs of children, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and the school
system at large.
